Indiana, Louisville and Kentucky all eye title

We are a couple of weeks into the college basketball season and we can start to see the beginnings of how the season will shake out.  One thing I think we can agree on is how deep college basketball is this year.  Last year I think you had only 6 teams that realistically could win the title.  At this point I could see up to 12 teams raising the banner.  If you take a look at the past 25 years or so of NCAA champions they all have three things in common.

  1. They are from a Major Conference
  2. Have both inside and outside presence
  3. Have a stud player.

I have broken the field into three categories.  Here they are as of today.

Final Four or Bust

Kansas, Michigan State, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville and Arizona

Can Win the Title

Oklahoma State, Florida, Indiana, Ohio State, Syracuse, Michigan

Can Make a Run to the Final Four but Can’t Close the Deal

VCU, Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Wichita St., Oregon, Iowa St., Creighton, North Carolina, Boise St., Xavier, BYU, Notre Dame and Indiana St

I know that there are some teams, some ranked, that I left off but I just don’t think they are as good as people think.  This group would include Memphis, UConn, New Mexico, Baylor, UCLA and Marquette.

There are some big match-ups coming up nation wide so I am sure there will be some change in these rankings in the coming weeks.
