The one thing Indiana and Kentucky fans agree on

Posted: December 31, 2013 by jmklee in Uncategorized

Fans of Indiana and Kentucky don’t agree on much but it there is one thing they do it is how ridiculous Louisville fans are.  I was asked recently why I make fun of Louisville so much?  Well this pretty much sums it up.

One last chance in 2013

As the world counts down 2013 many of your favorite teams will be in action today.
The Big 10 kicks off today for the Boilers and Hoosiers back to back on ESPN2.

Ohio St @ Purdue 1pm

Indiana @ Illinois 3pm

The Pacers are also in action today with a 3pm tip with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

A lot to keep you busy this afternoon as you get ready to ring in the new year.

Before I go I have one last gift for you in 2013. I have no idea the circumstances for this picture but I can’t stop staring at it.

No matter your team this is very cool

This was the scene during the National Anthem before the Kentucky vs Louisville game last Saturday afternoon.  UK has done this before but I have never seen it done to this capacity.  I have watched this a few times and it still gives me chills.

Thank you from BDS for a great 2013

I am not sure if I am going to get a chance to post again by the end of the year so I want to take this time to tell you thank you.  Thank you for following, contributing and laughing about the world of sports along with me this year.  What started out as a suggestion from my wife to start a website has turned into where we are today and if it wasn’t for the other writers and you reading it would just be me and my MacBook.  And that would just be weird.

I want to give a special thank you to Nick Dalton, Andy Schoettle and Eric Schoettle for filling in the gaps between my tomfoolery.  Also thank you to Walt, Mario, Beck and the countless others that have contributed to the podcasts.  Thank you to McQ’s Pub & Eatery for allowing us to hold the past few podcasts.

As we look to continue the growth of BDS all we ask is if you enjoy the website or podcasts to tell a friend or co-worker.  If you know any one that is creative and funny and loves to write let us know because we would love to have someone talented finally write on this site.

And The Album of the Year Goes to…..

Posted: December 29, 2013 by nickd0913 in Uncategorized

Time for my final list of 2013.  I saved the best category, album of the year, for last.  I am still old school and think albums are important and I buy 99% of my music an album at a time.  While I totally support the digital age of music I am not down with downloading single songs, I stopped buying singles when they stopped making cassingles in about 1990.

2013 was a great year for music and a great year for albums.  I was able to get my hands on quite a few and listen to a lot more thanks to Spotify.  It was tough to come up with just 5 albums but here you go.

5. Magpie and the Dandelion – The Avett Brothers

This album was recorded during the same sessions as their 2012 album “The Carpenter” and I think this set of tunes is stronger than their previous album but both albums are very good.  This band is becoming one of my favorite current bands and they put on a great live show.  I now own most of their albums and they are all filled with great lyrics, great harmonies, and great musicianship.  This album is no different. Check out how good they sound live.  This is my favorite song from the new album.

4. Never Give In – Will Hoge

You already saw a will Hoge song on my favorite song of the year list.  Well he has an entire album of really good songs.  Hoge has graduated to the elite club of artists who will get their album purchased by me without hearing one song.  I don’t need to hear any songs because I know every album he puts out is worth owning.  This album is no exception.  Hoge is a modern day John Mellencamp, he writes great songs that have big hooks and his albums are strong from the 1st song to last song.  It is a shame he has to use his song in a Chevy commercial or have a mainstream country band like the Eli Young Band cover his song to get his music heard because he is better than that.  Check out this album or any of his albums.  You will be glad you did.

3. Wiser for the Time – The Black Crowes

Let’s cut the bullshit right now, The Black Crowes are the best band of the past 25 years.  Whatever band you think is better you are wrong.  This band cannot be topped live.  If you don’t believe me why don’t you bust this album and find out for yourself?  26 songs, 13 acoustic and 13 electric from their 2010 tour.  Covers from bands like The Flying Burrito Brothers, Bob Dylan, and Little Feat. Some of their biggest hit songs are on here along with gems that have never been released on any album that only the hardcore fan can appreciate.  This album is a great representation of what the band does live, and what they do is kick your ass.  Go get this album and play it loud.  Here is a 4:00 sample of this band doing what your band can’t do.

2. High Top Mountain – Sturgill Simpson

This guy is going to be a star and he is going to do it on his own terms.  Simpson is everything that country is not these days.  He is a throwback to the old days of outlaw country.  He plays like Waylon Jennings and sings like George Jones (actually nobody sings like George Jones but he is as close as you can get). Anyway if you are a fan of traditional country music and are sick of the shit on country radio then pick up this album.  Here is the best song on the album and the one that got my attention the first time I heard it.

1. Southeastern – Jason Isbell

I am not even going to say anything else about this album.  By now you either own this album or you are just a dumb ass who hates good music and America.

Let the Playoffs begin

In honor of both the Colts and Bengals wins today lets enjoy the team fight songs.

The Bengal Growl

The Colts Fight Song

The Colts really need a fight song.

Colts – Bengals running updates

Posted: December 29, 2013 by jmklee in Uncategorized

Dre Kirkpatrick with a PICK 6 to pretty much put this one to bed.  Bengals up 34 – 17 and lock up at least the 3rd seed giving the Colts the 4 or 3 seed at best. All eyes will be on the New England vs. Buffalo game.

Not the knock out punch the Bengals wanted but they will take the field goal to go up 10.

Bengals pick off Flaco and smell blood.

Bengals drive over 90 yards to go back up 7 points.

The Colts game is all but over and I for one wish they would change over to the Bengals v Ravens game.  I will keep you up to speed on the action in Cincy.

Ravens tie things up in Cincinnati with a touchdown and 2pt conversion.

Bengal up 17 – 9 and the Colts are up 27 – 3

Marvin Jones is a Grown Ass Man!  The Bengals take a 17 – 6 lead with this Dalton to Jones connection.  With that TD pass Dalton breaks the single season TD pass record held by Carson Palmer.

Records keep falling today.  Andy Dalton breaks Palmer’s record for most passing yards in a single season.

Cincinnati takes 10 – 6 lead.

Ravens back up QB is warming up on the side lines.  The Bengals are just abusing Flaco.

Jags are on the board.  Field goal makes it 17 – 3

Not all the Jags are mailing it in.  Looks like this guy is trying to make a team next year.

Colts kick field goal, up 17-0

Bengals take a 7-6 lead

And just like that Dalton connects with AJ Green on a 53 yard touchdown pass to put the Bengals on top.  That is why you have to get touchdowns when you can.

Ravens 6-0

After Andy Dalton’s 2nd pick the Bengals D holds Baltimore to another field goal.

Colts gamble pays off.  Indy goes for it on 4th and goal and gets a Trent Richardson touchdown.

Here is a a look at the touchdown.  Donald Brown up and over for six.

Colts set record and take early 7-0 lead.

Andrew Luck just keeps putting up the numbers and after a Jacksonville fumble the Colts drive down to take an early lead.

Ravens take 3-0 lead in Cincy

This interception on the first play from scrimmage leads to a Baltimore field goal.
