A Few Places For #BBN to Eat, Drink and Enjoy Indy. Plus a Couple Helpful Tips!

Posted: March 30, 2015 by jmklee in Uncategorized

Welcome to Indy #BBN!  I have put together a few places to go, things to do, along with a couple of tidbits that should make your days and nights in our city more enjoyable.  So let’s paint the city blue and cheer the cats onto title #9.

401 E. Michigan St. Indianapolis, IN 46204

The German food is great and the atmosphere is even better.

My recommendation

Hot Wurst Platte  A sampling of Bratwurst, Bockwurst, Kielbasse and German Wieners served with our homemade sauerkraut and red cabbage. Served with German mustards for dipping.

If you could not get a seat at St. Elmo’s for the shrimp cocktail then the horseradish spicy mustard that comes with the soft pretzel appetizer is a must.  I always ask for the darkest German beer they can serve and am never disappointed.  Make sure to tip the bartenders well, they are the best in town and will take great care of you.

INDY TIP #1 – Don’t use the pay phone outside of White Castle downtown to call your significant other.   The name that appears on the caller ID is The Red Garter, the strip club next door.

225 West Washington St. Indianapolis, IN 46204

317-632-0765

This is my wife’s favorite place for breakfast downtown.

Her recommendation

Cuban Breakfast Seasoned black beans and rice, served hot with a fried egg and white cheddar, topped with avocado, sour cream and our spinach-jalapeño sauce.

A great place to grab lunch also but breakfast is my favorite.  Make sure to start your day with a Bloody Mary, Screwdriver or one of their other eye-opening adult beverages.

Unknown-88Maxine’s Chicken & Waffles

132 North East St. Indianapolis, IN 46204

317-423-3300

What do you really need to know about a place that has Chicken & Waffles in the name?  If you need more they assure us that there is “A Taste of Love In Every Bite”.

INDY TIP #2 – Bring comfy shoes.  Downtown Indy can be navigated easiest on foot.  You can go from Lucas Oil Stadium on the southwest of downtown to Mass Ave on the northeast side without breaking a sweat.  Just a tad over a mile.

Unknown-89Slippery Noodle Inn

372 S Meridian St, Indianapolis, IN 46225

This is my favorite bar in town.  Live Blues music every day of the week so if you get into town mid-week and want to enjoy a night out this always is your best bet.  It is billed as the oldest bar in Indiana and I can attest that it is one of the sturdiest.  The Slippery Noodle is where I waited out the tornado that ripped through downtown Indy during the 2006 Final Four.

TastingsTastings

50 West Washington St. Indianapolis, IN  46204

If wine is your thing then this is the place for you.  Located in the lobby of the Conrad hotel, Tastings allows you to taste all kinds of wines without paying by the bottle or glass.  If you have ever been to the Jim Beam Distillery then you know the set up.  Each serving gives you enough to decide if you would like more.  If not then just move on to the next one.

The Indiana Pacers are hosting the Charlotte Hornets Friday night.  You can click the link above to still get good seats through Ticket Master or just get them on the street before the game.  Make sure to fill the Fieldhouse with blue and let MKG know we still love him.

INDY TIP #3 – If you go to the Pacer vs Hornets game make sure to take some time to walk around the fieldhouse and take a look at all the display cases.  The amount of basketball history in the cases is enough to keep you busy for hours.

If can’t find place to stay…have great modern cabin deals in Brown County…30 miles south of Indy…much nicer and more spacious than hotel…better price to if group together. Call Hills O Brown or Moondance Rentals( ask about The Farm) in Nashville IN.
